Music Has Always Been My Language
I’ve had music in my life since I was born. I grew up in a household surrounded by musicals, singing, and dancing. My mother, an off-Broadway vocalist and music teacher, instilled a love of music in me from birth. Since I started playing violin at age 3 and piano at age 5, I haven’t stopped. I was also a dancer from age three through high school, and I always embody my dance background in my musical performances, which are full of movement and connection with the audience.
I filled my school days with music, taking private lessons in both piano and violin throughout high school and performing with the Oakland Youth Orchestra since middle school. I toured local elementary schools with an orchestra, promoting the importance of orchestral education in elementary schools when I was younger. In high school, I began performing at fundraising gigs and teaching piano lessons to young children.
I chose to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Oakland University and graduated with this degree. My major encompassed three music minors in classical music, jazz studies, and world music, as well as a fourth minor in environmental science. I have such a direct connection with each of these genres of music, and I was able to develop my passion for music during these years.
My education helped develop me into a trained violinist, able to provide classical music for any event and lead in orchestral and chamber settings. My education also molded me into a jazz violinist, as I adore gigging and performing jazz music on this instrument. I was raised learning violin through the Suzuki Method, and I pursued teaching this method, becoming a Suzuki Association of the Americas-certified violin teacher.
I was raised learning piano through the Simply Music Method, which I also teach. Singing since before I could walk, I have experience as a jazz vocalist and improviser, and I have also been trained in jazz arrangement. I was the sitting President of the OU Jazz Organization during its first year, helping to found the organization and teaching college students how to play jazz.
I have spent time in Ghana, Africa, learning the gyil (xylophone) from one of the most prominent teachers in the area. I was instructed in percussion and dance styles from Uganda by a Ugandan royal court musician. I learned Indian raga music styles on my violin as well. I have also been trained in tenor steelpan and have performed and improvised in a steelband ensemble. During my junior year, I received the OU Matilda Award for an outstanding student in world music. My senior recital when I graduated from Oakland was the first at OU to blend classical, jazz, world music, and dance.
I love music with my whole being. I believe that I have a very worldly and well-rounded approach to the discipline, both in teaching and performance. I love connecting with people, and I enjoy sharing and gaining knowledge, teaching, and working with adults and children. Music defines me, and I hope that through my performance and teaching, I can share my love of music with you as well.

I believe music education is about more than developing skills — it is about building confidence, creativity, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
