My Journey with the Piano

I began playing piano at the age of five through the Simply Music Method, which has remained an important part of my musical education. I later began teaching children through the same method, bringing my own experience as a student into my approach as a teacher.
At Oakland University, I studied jazz and received a minor in Jazz Studies, including four years of jazz piano instruction. I also performed with the Oakland University Latin Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo Bands, developing my skills in jazz harmony, rhythm, and ensemble playing.
I have performed piano for fundraisers and events, and I enjoy bringing the instrument into different settings, from live performances to educational environments.

Performance

From jazz piano and live accompaniment to performances for fundraisers and special events, I enjoy adapting the piano to different musical settings.

Teaching

I teach piano using the Simply Music Method, particularly with children. My goal is to make learning engaging and accessible while helping students develop musical confidence, coordination, listening skills, and a strong foundation for continued musical growth.

The Simply Music Method

The Simply Music Method introduces students to piano through a hands-on, playing-based approach, allowing them to begin making music from an early stage. Rather than relying exclusively on traditional music reading at the beginning, students develop a repertoire through playing and gradually build their broader musical understanding.

I value this approach especially for children because it can make the early stages of piano learning engaging, accessible, and encouraging, helping students build confidence while developing a lasting relationship with music.
