My musical education has been intentionally interdisciplinary. I found myself drawn to so many diverse aspects and areas of music that I knew I needed a degree path that incorporated them all. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to study so many diverse types of music at Oakland University under expert teachers in each distinct area. I believe that, especially as musicians, we benefit from multiple influences, and I know that these experiences have enriched my performance in every area.
I provide live violin, piano, and vocal music for weddings, fundraisers, private events, receptions, community events, and other special occasions. I love performing on stage, joining orchestras and ensembles, and creating unique musical experiences. I have also brought diverse musical performances to schools, giving students the opportunity to experience different styles of music. I can perform classical violin repertoire, strolling and outdoor violin, fiddle music, pop, and other styles tailored to the atmosphere of your event. I also perform jazz violin and vocals, steelband repertoire, and styles of West African percussion and dance.
Yes. In addition to performing as a solo musician, I am a trained jazz violinist and improviser, as well as a jazz vocalist with experience performing in jazz combos, ensembles, and diverse musical groups. I am also a trained classical musician with extensive experience performing in quartets, orchestral settings, and with pop and folk bands. I am trained to perform steelpan with steelband ensembles and can play in different sections of the group. I am also trained in several African-based percussion traditions and am comfortable performing in group settings. I can incorporate African dance into my performances as well. I can integrate with an existing band or collaborate with other musicians to create a customized performance.
My background spans classical, jazz, and world music traditions. I have extensive training in classical violin, jazz violin and voice, jazz piano, improvisation, arranging, as well as world music and diverse African and Caribbean musical traditions. I enjoy creating performances that reflect the style, setting, and energy of each event. I also enjoy combining different musical styles and cultures to create a unique, personalized blend of music for each occasion.
Yes. I offer instruction in violin and piano, with experience teaching both children and adults. I am a Suzuki Association of the Americas Certified Teacher and have taught Suzuki violin through both private and group instruction. I also teach piano using the Simply Music curriculum.
I work with students of different ages and at different stages of musical development, from young children beginning their musical journey to more experienced students looking to strengthen their technique, musicianship, performance skills, or understanding of different musical styles. Lessons can be adapted to each student’s goals, interests, and experience.
Both the Suzuki Method and the Simply Music Method are well-established approaches for teaching young children. With both methods, students initially learn music primarily through listening, pattern recognition, repetition, and imitation.
